Drake Bay Getaway Resort – Costa Rica

Perched on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Drake Bay Resort is located in the legendary Osa Peninsula, a hidden gem near the small town of Agujitas, in one of the more remote parts of Costa Rica, filled with wildlife both on the land and at sea. It is an idyllic location to get away from the crowds and be at one with nature.

The lodge has fabulous, knowledgeable local guides who will lead you on a huge array of private tours to explore the wilderness. They can take you to explore the coastline with scuba gear, on a kayak or snorkel and get up close to the tropical fish and other marine life. Or you can simply wander through the rainforest or relax on the sandy beach.  If you are feeling more adventurous, you can zip line or ride horses to get further afield.

The five cabins are secluded, just up from the lobby and beach, and are located right inside the rainforest so you truly get back to nature. You will love the vista of the rainforest, ocean or both from your deck.

The meals are superb, with fresh ingredients used for all dishes, which are a skillful blend of modern and traditional Costa Rican. Dinner is often freshly caught fish – mahi-mahi is a popular catch. Three meals a day are included, but if this is not enough, the cafe serves snacks, natural fruit juices, and Costa Rican coffee.

Eco-luxe touches

Owners Yens Steller and Patrick Ludwig designed the property to set an eco-resort standard for Central America, and their efforts, from metal drinking straws to channeling rainwater to feed the vibrant gardens, are abundant.  The buildings are designed in an environmentally-friendly way and cross ventilation is employed to cool the cabins, with solar panels providing hot water for the showers.
