Iceland and Arctic Circle - At a Glance

Iceland – A perfectly proportioned island lost in the icy Atlantic can make any traveler’s dream come true. Maybe it’s chasing the Northern Lights in dreamlike, volcanic scenery with no light or air pollution? Or driving across centuries-old glaciers and majestic volcanoes in robust super jeeps and stopping for a sensational photographic moment next to thundering waterfalls or steaming geysers?

Or why not explore the extra-terrestrial topography of Iceland on board a private helicopter and land next to a remote local restaurant where humar, the local lobster, is served in abundance?

From design hotels in eclectic Reykjavik where you will fast experience the fine and fashionable Nordic life style to luxury expeditions and mobile-tented camps built on ice blue glaciers. Iceland has it all.

It is here that you can unlock your philanthropic experience of tracking the endangered Arctic Fox.

Greenland and Svalbard are other amazing parts of the Artic Circle, where you can see Polar Bears, go dog sledding or snow mobiling, and even sleep in an ice-bound ship or an old radio station.

In Sweden you can interact with the Sammi culture and sleep in an Ice Hotel.

THE ULTIMATE ICELAND ITINERARY

Sample Itinerary & Pricing

The sample 12 day itinerary is priced from $55,000 per person. International flights are not included, but we can arrange these for you, including private jet.

DAY 1 ARRIVE ICELAND

Arrival in Iceland. Your driver will meet you in the arrival hall – transfer to your private luxury villa about an hour from Reykjavik.
Afternoon at leisure.
Welcome dinner by your private chef.

DAY 2 BUGGY TOUR & GOLDEN CIRCLE

Breakfast at the villa.

Meet your guide at the hotel after breakfast, and depart for a day filled with sightseeing and adventure.
The morning begins with a drive to the base of Mt. Esja where you will be strapped into buggies for a 2-hour tour.

Buggies
Zip through the vast, unique and often moon-like landscape in a two-seater buggy – one of the most exciting and exhilarating ways of exploring Iceland. Whether you are touring on a solo adventure or rather sitting shoulder to shoulder with your partner, the thrill of being so close to the ground as you zoom through a variety of scenery is impossible to beat. The buggies can take on a vast range of terrain, from grassy hills and dirt tracks to river beds, so you should be prepared to get dirty, dusty, and most likely wet too. Put your driving skill to the test and get your blood pumping!

Thingvellir and chasm snorkeling

After the buggy tour your guide will take you out to the country side, to Thingvellir, the founding place of the oldest democratic parliament in the world.

This area is noted for its spectacular lava formations and being the only place in the world where you can actually see the tectonic plates drift apart.

Here you can experience an extraordinary snorkelling encounter:

A deep chasm has formed and you can swim through the dazzling gap between the continents. The clear glacial waters of the lake are the result of the slow-filtration of melted water from the Langjökull glacier.  The visibility is outstanding and exceeds 300ft (100m).

Waterfalls

From there we will head to the most impressive waterfalls in Europe, Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall). Here you will see thousands of tons of icy water thunder majestically down in a double-fall into a deep gorge from the glacier Langjokull.

Geysers

Continue on to visit Geysir, the “geyser” which gave its name to all other erupting hot springs. You will see one of the most active geysers in the area, Strokkur, spouting up to 90 feet into the air.

We return back to Reykjavik for dinner.
Overnight at your luxury lodge.

DAY 3 SOUTH COAST

Drive along the south shore to Reynisfjara and southernmost point of Iceland – Vik. The drive to Vik directly would take about 2 hours but we will do multiple stops on the way.

What to see

Waterfalls, one of which you can walk behind, black sandy beaches, mountains and strange lava formations along the way. Solheimajokull glacier tongue extends down from its mother glacier, Iceland’s fourth largest.

Here we will do a private glacier walk, to experience this unique environment with some amazing terrain with crevasses, sink holes and ice ridges.

At Skógarfoss waterfall we will stop and do a little hike.

Dinner with a private chef, to be determined with the client
Overnight at your lodge/villa

DAY 4 GLACIER LAGOON BY HELICOPTER, HIKE & HOT SPRINGS

A helicopter will pick you up at your lodge to fly to Glacier Lagoon. Your helicopter pilot will be your guide as well.
This spectacular helicopter tour offers a wonderfully picturesque route through the Jökulsárlón exotic colors of Icelandic nature.

From yellow geothermal grounds and emerald-green moss to fairy-blue ice cliffs, deep-red lava fields and black sand beaches. Make sure you bring a big memory card.

Your adventure includes
a private Zodiac tour on Fjallsárlón lagoon.

Hiking and hot springs

We finish with a great 4 mile (7 km) hike that is suitable for anyone. It is a unique chance to visit the hot springs for a nice bathing session- just as the locals do.

In the “Steamvalley” naturally hot water flows down of the slopes of Hellisheidi mountain range, creating the ideal place to bathe in a hot river.

DAY 5 SUPER JEEP & SNOWMOBILING SAFARI

Today we will travel on Super Jeeps. After a short briefing we dress up in the snow suit and step into a Super Jeep. We then drive up the mountain, onto the glacier where we pick up the snowmobiles and ride to the glacier Eyjafjallajökull.
Experience a private snowmobiling tour on Eyjafjallajökull glacier; an extraordinary experience with breathtaking views over South Iceland.
At Básar we will set up a nice lunch with a private chef. Thorsmork is a great place to hike at and the guide will take you on a short hike there.
Return to your villa.

DAY 6 FLY TO THE WESTFJORDS

Today we fly to Sudavik in the Westfjords, site of your philanthropic experience: tracking Arctic Foxes in the wild.

First up we visit the Arctic Fox Centre to learn more about these fascinating creatures and their status, as well as actions taken to conserve them.

Settle in to your comfortable hotel,  Ísafjörður

DAY 7-9 TRACKING ARCTIC FOXES

Today we depart with our expert guides and trackers in search of arctic foxes in their natural environment, on a private expedition.

The bright Icelandic summer nights are the ideal time to see Arctic Foxes. During the daytime, they stay in and around their dens. But at night, the foxes are more active and visible. The young pups play outside the dens while their parents hunt in the mountains or along the beach. For 65 years they have roamed the fjords and bays, free from human disturbance, making them rather tame and playful.

It’s a unique opportunity to visit Hornstrandir in a relatively short timeframe, experience the midnight sun, learn about and feel the history of the area and see Arctic Foxes in their natural environment.

We walk carefully, keep our distance and follow guidelines and rules given by wildlife specialists.

A guided kayak tour is a great way to explore the untouched coastline of this remote area.

Overnight at Kviar Lodge on Day 8 and Hótel Ísafjörður on Day 9.

DAY 10 INSIDE THE VOLCANO & BLUE LAGOON

After breakfast, fly back to Reykjavik, and drive to the dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano. After donning the necessary gear and equipment, descend 120 meters/400 feet to the bottom of the crater in an open cable lift.

In the afternoon depart to Reykjanes peninsula – visit the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s most popular attraction. Blue Lagoon is a natural geothermal spa surrounded by lava field and black sandy beaches. Have “the swim of your life” enjoying the comfort of the warm lagoon water.

We spend the night in a Lagoon suite at the new Retreat Hotel with your own private lagoon. Enjoy spa treatments.

DAY 11 FREE DAY

You have today to relax and recharge in your suite and private lagoon, along with more spa treatments and a farewell dinner at Moss Restaurant.

DAY 12 FLY OUT

You have a private transfer to the airport in time for your onward flight. Naturally if you would like to explore Scandinavia or the Arctic Circle, I can make it happen for you.

Like what you see? Like it but want to make some changes? Either way, get in touch and we will make it happen for you.
