Safari – Southern Africa

Safari is probably the biggest draw for visiting Africa, and for good reason – there is nothing quite like seeing the animals we have seen in zoos and documentaries in their natural environment.

There is no “best place for safari”; a lot depends on what you want to get out of your safari, and your experience on safari is often a big factor in this.

Very roughly:

  • Best for “Big 5” – Sabi Sands, Madikwe, Phinda (South Africa), Hwange (Zimbabwe)
  • Best for lions – Masai Mara (Kenya), Serengeti (Tanzania), Tswalu Kalahari (South Africa), Okavango Delta (Botswana)
  • Best for leopards – Sabi Sands (South Africa), South Luangwa (Zambia)
  • Best for elephants – Chobe (Botswana), Tsavo (Kenya), Etosha (Namibia), Hwange or Mana Pools (Zimbabwe)
  • Best for meerkats – Tswalu Kalahari (South Africa)
  • Best for pangolin – Tswalu Kalahari (South Africa)
  • Best for aardvark – Tswalu Kalahari (South Africa)
  • Best for cheetah – Serengeti (Tanzania), Masai Mara (Kenya)
  • Best for wild dogs – Sabi Sands (South Africa)
  • Best for mountain gorillas – Rwanda
  • Best for walking safaris – South Luangwa (Zambia)
  • Best for families with young children – Eastern Cape, Tswalu Kalahari, Madikwe (South Africa), Masai Mara (Kenya)

Malaria may be a concern, and malaria free reserves do exist in South Africa, such as Madikwe and our favourite, Tswalu, though even areas not declared malaria free have extremely low incidents of malaria.

What our clients say about us

Incredible Experience

“My wife and I wanted to travel through Chile, Bolivia and Peru and were slightly daunted by the logistics of organising such a varied trip.

John Resse, USA

Best Trip Organiser

Chris was incredibly helpful not only mapping out the most exciting and engaging trip, but also using his extensive personal knowledge of the best things to do. They were reassuringly efficient in organising the trip, monitoring how we were doing during the trip and making adjustments to improve the trip.

Tracy Williams, UK

Fantastic Memories

Chris’s passion and enthusiasm encouraged us to do things we wouldn't have thought to do, which gave us fantastic memories of the trip of a lifetime.”
