House Building in Bolivia

You can build a home for a family in need. These families typically consist of three kids and two parents, as well as a number of single parent households. Many of the families earn their income through growing fruits and vegetables. Others work as laborers.

About this project

This Christian organization was started by two Bolivian brothers with a great deal of house building experience. They are focused on poverty-alleviation and creating a better life for indigenous Bolivians.

Main volunteering activities:
  • Helping the expert masons and carpenters
  • Laying bricks
  • Mixing and carrying cement and mortar
  • Digging the foundation
  • Helping constuct the roof
Key information:
  • The typical number of days on this fulfilling project 3, but the house takes 7-8 days to complete, so you can spend longer
  • It involves 7-8 hours of helping each day, starting at 9:00am
  • April to November is recommended, but you can help anytime
  • This volunteering project blends well with activities in La Paz, such as the Valley of the Moon, a cooking class, and cycling the ‘World’s Most Dangerous Road’
Volunteering in Bolivia
Successes to date:

The organization has housed over 5,000 families around the world, across 19 countries.

The positive impacts of good housing include:

  • Better health outcomes: a dry roof and cement floor results in far fewer family members getting sick. A good home also improves sleep, with positive health benefits
  • Improved education: being sick less means better school attendance, along with providing a safe, stable place to do homework
  • Higher income: entrepreneurship rates triple, and improved health outcomes mean more days earning income
  • Dignity: families’ feelings of self-worth improve, as well as pride in having a home you are comfortable welcoming people to.
