Perched on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Drake Bay Resort is located in the legendary Osa Peninsula, a hidden gem near the small town of Agujitas, in one of the more remote parts of Costa Rica, filled with wildlife both on the land and at sea.
The lodge has fabulous, knowledgeable local guides who will lead you on a huge array of private tours to explore the wilderness. They can take you to explore the coastline with scuba gear, on a kayak or just snorkeling toget up close to the tropical fish and other marine life. Drake Bay contains attractions for nature lovers and adventure tourists alike. Spend a day walking in the rainforest or just relax on the beach. Zip lining and horseback riding is also available.
It is the perfect spot to escape from the tourist traps and really experience the nature Costa Rica can offer.
After a long day head back to your cabin to relax. The cabins are a short uphill walk away from the lobby and beach to give you seclusion and privacy. The cabins, built on stilts, sit in the middle of the rainforest canopy. There are five cabins, three are standalone while the last two are the bottom and top floor of the only two story building at the resort. Each cabin comes with a large deck and sliding glass doors in order to truly appreciated the view. A king size bed is provided and extra cots can be requested for those traveling in slightly larger groups. Select your choice of views (ocean, rainforest or both)
The meals are fantastic. A café is available for small snacks in between meal times or if you are in need of a caffeine boost. Meals at the restaurant are a combination of traditional Costa Rica and modern dining. All dishes use the freshest ingredients. Dinner is usually the catch-of-the-day fish from a nearby beach – mahi-mahi is a popular catch. For breakfast, tropical fruits, eggs and waffles are available.
Owners Yens Steller and Patrick Ludwig designed the property to set an eco-resort standard for Central America, and their efforts, from steel straws to recaptured rainwater for the vibrant gardens, are on full display. The cabins are cooled using natural methods including fans, cross ventilation and eco-friendly architecture. Solar heated water runs throughout the cabins and to the twin rain shower heads.
