Conserve Snow Leopards in the Himalayas
Track snow leopards in the wild and fund the conservation of these critically endangered cats
Men (and women) wanted for hazardous journey, no wages, bitter cold. Most Snow Leopard expeditions take place in the popular region of the Rumbak Valley of Ladakh but we operate this trip in the less touristic Ulley region. Ulley is a remote hamlet of 7 houses at the head of the valley, situated at about 13,000 feet (4,300 m). The wild and remote locations means that you are surrounded by wildlife with wolves, Ibex and Himalayan fox, snow cock, lammergeier, Himalayan Griffon, golden eagles and much else.
You have virtually exclusive access to this amazing area, and you can decide how much walking you want to do. Accompany our trackers following the remarkable snow leopards. Throughout you are also putting money directly into local communities by way of the local accommodation and employing guides and trackers.
Truly a once in a lifetime photographic and wildlife experience, this private Snow Leopard Journey offers an unmissable opportunity to meet Asia’s “mountain ghost” whilst travelling to a selection of India’s most iconic destinations.
This extraordinary adventure offers special access to a series of unique experiences that are exclusive to our guests.
The Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, known as ‘Little Tibet’, has been hailed as one of the last frontiers for wildlife tourism.
This incredible 13-day winter expedition meets the elements head-on, in an awe-inspiring landscape, in search of the elusive snow leopard.
The Ladakh region is a high altitude cold desert and for the snow leopard to survive it has a prey base of bharal (blue sheep), ibex and marmots. Wolves, foxes and wild dogs are other predators in the same area.
An attractive contrast also lies between these stone-hard mountain people and the gentle and compassionate Buddhism that they practice. You will have time to visit some of their great monasteries as well as their picturesque villages. Small settlements of Tibetan farmers and their livestock occupy isolated villages on the valley floors.
Be aware that this expedition is quite a demanding one due it being operated at high altitudes and cold, so you need to be fit, active and in good health. i.e. no conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure etc. We are very careful in vetting interested participants. Honor and recognition in case of success.
